5 actions to fight climate change in Malawi
Here are 5 actions to fight climate change, that Son and Jiin want to perform to help fight climate change during the Service period in Malawi for 8 months and then the Journal period for 4 months.
- Up-cycling music club (Malawi)
- Up-cycling art club (Malawi)
- Natural products campaign (Malawi)
- Spreading our story and taking action with local people (Malawi)
- “Living faster makes the world more polluted” (journal)
Why did we decide on these 5 actions to fight climate change?
First of all…
Today we throw away far too many reusable things, especially plastic products such as plastic jars, cups and so on.
These things have a huge potential to be transformed in another way through up-cycling. From these ideas, we made a plan for an action that we can do in Malawi with our students.
The plan we made is to create an ‘Up-cycling music club and Up-cycling art club’. The main purpose of these actions is to let the students know that trash or the things which you don’t use can be transformed into a nice musical instrument or a beautiful art work.
Because of climate change the lives of people who don’t have any power are suffering.
We were thinking and realized that we can organize actions that make useful products from natural ingredients.
We can make natural products such as toothpaste, shampoo and soap instead of buying them in the supermarket and as well as saving money it will help the earth against the climate change.
It is important not only to do actions by ourselves but also to spread our actions to the other people.
For example, making and practicing songs which are related to climate change with our students and neighbors, then all going out to the streets to do perform what we practiced. More neighbors will ask what we are doing and after the actions will be spread the entire village.
Fourth of all...
We are going to do our last action during the journal period. The title of the action is ‘Living slowly’.
Because we were thinking that the world more polluted time by time with faster life.
Technology gives us convenience and speed but also often creates pollution. The main action we will do is not to use any transport that runs using oil and gas for one week.
It will help to reduce the damage to the earth caused by burning these fuels and the effects of global warming.
We hope our 5 actions to fight climate change, leave a footprint in beautiful Malawi and the earth where we are living. Some of them might be quite small and invisible for the moment, but as the song ‘Imagine’ says, we hope someday you will join us and the world will be as one.
