My Thoughts about New Technologies
I think it can be very exciting to read about new technologies, and it can be mind blowing to think how fast technology has progressed in my lifetime. It also makes me feel stupid at times, I feel like there are so many people working to develop new technologies and I do not understand most of it, how they are produced and the process behind.
As a person, it affects my understanding of technology itself, and expands what I think is possible regarding this subject. Studying new technologies makes me want to understand more and maybe be part of developing some kind of technological artifact. What did I know before about new technologies? I have heard about it before but sometimes it is good to read again, and remember the past and how technology has evolved so fast and give a thought as to where it might get in the near future.
Technologies are created with a purpose, to solve a problem, so of course they can be used, in their specific purpose. Sometimes technologies are also used in other ways, different from their original purpose, which can mean either more development or the posing of new problems to which new technology has to give answers to. For example technology has created the issue of cyber crime to which more security and technology such as fingerprint recognition for passwords have been developed.
I think the technology to clean water, to produce food and to power our lives sustainably could really solve the problem of people not having their basic needs covered. Technology is there but the resources are not being put into solving the social problems of the world but to increase the profit of the already rich.
On the other hand I think everything can be potentially bad, with twisted intentions and selfish agendas, as most technologies can be used for good purposes. Also more naive technological objects and technology such as search engines are already making us less knowledgeable and affecting our memory skills, readily available cameras and microphones in every cellphone are influencing people’s privacy, to give some.
