Beach Cleaning Event
During the Christmas holidays I had the chance to go back home to be with my friends, family and loved ones. We spent time together, visited some beautiful places, did some hiking around and also me and my cousin left our small footprint by creating a meeting with all the people we knew to clean our beach.
I live on the coast and little by little I started to realize how fast the sea level is rising and is covering more and more land. This scares me a lot. Since I’m in Lindersvold doing the Climate Activist program I also become more aware of the devastating consequences it can bring to my city. We have a beautiful beach and the ocean is bringing more and more trash because we are too polluting more and more. So, I decided to change that a little bit and create an “ending the year” action.
Me and my cousin start to share it on Facebook and we told about our event to everyone we knew. It was heartbreaking to see so much plastic and other materials people throw out without thinking about what will happen to them. In spite of that, the result was very much positive: 20 pair of hands, lots of fun and a huge amount of garbage collected.
All kind of people showed up (including my 5 year old brother who loved it btw) and helped making a normal sunny day into something that really has an impact in our lives. Some of the people who work with children even took part of the garbage to do some activities with them and spread the word to the young ones.
The best part is to know we are not alone. There’s a lot of people who want to be part of this movement and who refuse to do nothing about what’s happening around the world everyday. In just 1 week we raised 20 people in a 10,000 inhabitants city. Imagine what can be done worldwide step by step. There’s hope in every corner. We just have to chaise it.
