To experience so many different cultures and people
My experience of the preparation week for Winter concert 2018 at Tvind
On the 11th of January I arrived at Lindersvold.
I decided to arrive a couple of weeks earlier than the program was starting (1st of February) to get used to the new situation that I was going to participate in for the time to come, to find my place in this new situation, to get to know the people and to explore the area.
After the first week the school asked me if I wanted to join the preparation week for the Winter concert 2018 in Tvind.
They told me something about this concert that they organize every year.
That it is a free classical concert, to give all the people, young and old, rich and poor, the possibility to experience and come in contact with a classical concert with talented musicians and dancers from across the world.
It sounded absolutely exciting to me, so of course I said ‘yes’!
With two other people from Lindersvold we crossed Denmark by train to join this adventure. It was a nice way to see something of the Danish country.
When we arrived in Ulfborg, we were really tired.
We were picked up by this amazing duo, a DNS Teacher and a student. Sitting in the back of the car in the dark, with only dashboard light and these two people who were talking and discussing with a lot of passion was like sitting in a little theatre. It was a small appetizer for the days that were going to come.
The next day we had our first meeting with the people who were joining this preparation week. At this moment we were with about 15 people/volunteers.
During the days there were more people to come and help. They arrived from all different schools and parts of Denmark.
And then there were also the students that helped us.
Our task for this week was to make a nice and comfortable stay for all the musicians who were coming from different parts of the world. So they could have a good preparation time for their big concerts at Holstebro on Saturday and Copenhagen on Sunday. We had to clean the rooms, prepare food, make it nice and cosy and have the stage set on time.
The first part of the week, I was part of the hosting team, where we had to clean and prepare the rooms.
It was hard work, but it was a nice time.
The second part of the week I was part of the stage team. We had to set up the stage for the rehearsals and for the concert in Holstebro.
During the concert we had to make sure that the right instruments were on the right place. It was very exciting and nerve-racking at the same time. We were surrounded by so many talented people, we wanted to give the best that we could.
For me it was the first time to experience a concert from backstage.
During the concert we could experience this highlight from a very close and special point of view.
During the evenings we played games, we sat around the wood stove, we danced and we sang.
There were so many backgrounds, cultures, habits and passions combined.
To be able to experience so many different cultures and people, was one of my reasons to join this project. Not only while doing big projects, but also during everyday life.
It was an amazing adventure, with traveling to new places, new things to learn, full of emotions and meeting so many nice people.
Looking back at it, there could be no better way to introduce me to this new ‘lifestyle’ than to join this preparation week.
I’m excited to start the program and to join more weeks like this, together with our February team 2018! 😀
