How do we study about Universal History in our study week in DRH Lindersvold?
As Development Instructors, we need to have the opportunity to improve ourselves, to apply our knowledge about what we had studied during our education, in order to teach or to educate people in the future.
In our program, every day we need to develop something, we need to do tasks, we need to socialize, we need to be active or to create some activities.
This programme keeps us busy and active all day. But at the end of the day, we realize that we’ve learned something new about us or the others, and how we developed ourselves and our knowledge.
In this week, we start to learn about Universal history. Now let’s see how we learn.
At the beginning, the teacher gave us a class. He explained about the fact of history, not only this but also how history can be treated and understood in two different ways; one can be described as the idealist perception of history, the other as the materialist perception.
The interesting thing is that we have different backgrounds, and we are from 7 different countries, like South Korea, Spain, Italy. Turkey, Romania, Portugal, Estonia, and Chile. In this way, we can share each other’s knowledge of history.
How do we study about Universal History:
During the week we are studying about the forces that shape the world. We started with looking into the theory of Historical Materialism that explains the process of History through contradictions and how they develop.
The first thing we did was to watch some interesting videos about this and then one documentary called "Guns, Germs and Steel".
Also, we have to prepare some presentations about specific topics: Primitive Communism, Crisis, World War, Contradictions of imperialism, etc.
The team is divided into groups of two or three, and each group has to choose specific subjects. By doing like this each group can get depth knowledge about subjects.
One day, we have a special lecture about Capitalism and Socialism, and later in the week, we need to debate the topics. We will finish our week by sharing what we’ve learned with each other.
