How to create a schoolgarden project
Whilst in St Vincent, we had a project to create a school garden in Chateaubelair Primary School.
It was a tough task because none of us has built a garden before, worked in one, yes, but not built from zero. I would say planning the shape and looking what to grow there was the easy part. The hard part was to realize it.
But our team is very experienced how to handle difficult situations, so we didn´t give up, we just started somewhere and moved on step by step.
If working in the fruit forest with that sun was hard, even if we had shadows quite often, then working in the garden was brutal especially between 12 and 14, when the sun was the strongest. We went there every day for a week and worked 5 hours a day. But we were passionate about getting it done so after finishing the beds we were very satisfied. Right now there´s only planting to do.
I´m so proud of our team, we finished it fast and nicely, and after we leave here they will have a beautiful garden to remember us. Maybe it doesn´t sound very tough reading this, but I can say that this was one of the hardest jobs I have done in this program, and I mean physically hard. In the team we had some arguments while making the plan but this was nothing compared to earlier discussions and conflicts, so the physical work was most tough.
I´m glad that I could learn something new. I´m a total beginner when it comes to gardening, but now I can say that I´m so much smarter when planning to start my own garden someday.
I know for example what to consider when making the first plan or which plants grow well with together. Anyway, I got good things out of the hard work, and this is how life is - you can´t only have good experiences, you get also the difficult ones.
Everything comes from hard work whether we like it or not, because if we want to learn or reach new goals, we have to do something for that. And whatever we do, we have to take the best out of it, because we never know when we get another kind of similar opportunity.
I´m trying to live so I don´t regret anything.
