Hello, I’m Jiwon from
Seoul, South Korea.
I have been interested in the International Development field and had a desire to help people who are suffering under famine and by being poor in the world since I was teenager. I had read about the miserable situations in developing countries when I was 14 years old. It was so shocking for a little girl that so many people are living in extremely different circumstances in the world.
Since then, I have dreamed about working for and with other people. So I decided to study social work (welfare) in my bachelor’s degree. I thought it could make me an expert to work this field. However, I felt that it was not enough to work for developing countries by myself after graduating the university.
I have also had an interest in North Korean refugees not only because I am Korean, but also I heard about the tragic situation of North Korean people. So I had an internship for an NGO supporting their life and Human Rights to live as a human being. I also worked for an NGO for helping children and setting children’s right.
Through these many volunteering and work experiences, I learned and realized that helping poor people by just giving cannot make them live in a better situation. It is a very outdated and selfish thinking from the rich.
want to find the way how we can live together in this world and what I can do for finding the way. I have a desire to study about understanding this world and this field more. That’s why I decided to come here. Through this program, I can get extensive knowledge about ways to think about our world as well as the practical actions it will take to make this world get better.
I´m Rocío and I was born in Honduras 23 years ago. I have lived in Madrid (Spain) for the majority of my life and last year I finished my social work studies at university.
Since I was very young, I have always believed in human rights and I have always wondered how I could better other people´s lives. Travelling during the years helped me discover new countries, people and cultures. The combination of my studies, traveling and the will to contribute to positive change has brought me into the 18 month program – Fighting with The Poor.
During this program I hope to learn a lot in the school as much as through new experiences and with the people around me. For sure I will find a lot of challenges but I think they are the best part of life.
Hi, my name is Alessia
I am a very lucky person who grew up surrounded by love and care. I am even luckier because I was taught by my family about the importance of having love and care towards others.
Empathy and sensitivity have always been part of myself but much I had to learn – and I am still learning – about life and its numerous contradictions.
I have been volunteering for years as an animal rights activist and the amount of information and experience I faced was a challenge as much as an inspiration. The human behaviour, the political power games, the strength one needs to grow to face heart breaking situations, all of it was an internal rollercoaster completely worth it.
I have learned to change myself and start from there, I have learned to fight against and I have chosen this program to learn to fight with. I am embracing this new experience with the same spirit I carry through life, being open to the differences, ready for the challenges and keeping becoming a better person for myself and what and whom surround me.
