There is still war in Syria
Short memory – Shame on Europe
We are talking again about the war, again about Syria, and yet again about the refugees.
Yes, we are.
We are because there is still war in Syria, and the refugees are still waiting, and most importantly because we have to. So let’s refresh our memory, and get to the point.
Where is the European Union?
Where are the Nobel Peace Prize laureates?
Where are our principles?
Where are the refugees?
Many questions without answers come every day to my mind, and the minds of thousands of people in Europe, but those responsible and the big leaders of our “developed” countries are still up there in their ivory towers observing how the people are still being killed and how a country is being totally destroyed.
But they are not only observers; they are accomplices of this big crime and its consequences (Long story).
At the same time, the neighboring countries, already fragile because of instability and economic stagnation, are receiving more than 90% of all the refugees from Syria.
Anonymous people all over the world are mobilizing; organizations from different countries are risking their lives to save people in the sea; mayors and mayoress are fighting with their governments to welcome the refugees…
The people are fighting against the governments, and those who should be listening to the people are just following their own interests. They are not blind or deaf when faced with the conflict, but they are faced with the exigencies of the European citizens, faced with those who are dying and waiting in front of our borders and in our refugee camps.
We could just say: “The world is crazy”, but what we need are solutions, and those who are in charge of it, are not going to find them because they don’t want to, and they will convince you that you want the same as them.
The final answer, as always: “We are working on it”, “we are doing our best”, and “the situation is critical”, “crisis”…
So what then:
Agreements that they break, laws against those who are helping and dying, lies after lies, and a lot of people disappointed that do not know what to do. I don’t have the answer, of course, but I see that we have to look and act in three directions:
- The political responsibilities,
- fighting with our hands and resources,
- and finding and reflecting on the root of the problem.
Someone said “The collective memory is too short”, and they were right.
Let’s go further and look at the media and the photos with expiring dates: The people are there even when they are no more in the news or the newspaper.
It is a long time ago that the war started, millions of refugees are left waiting, thousands of children and people killed, seas dirty with blood, countries destroyed and images that we can never erase.
Shame on this world, shame on Europe, shame on our presidents, shame on the borders… and shame also on our short memory.
Don’t regret and take action!
